I give an overview of the puzzling properties of the exotic candidate Y(4260) and present detailed analysis of experimental observables for its production in e+e- annihilations. A systematic and coherent investigation of the S-wave open channel effects turns out to be crucial for a better understanding of its nature and the abnormal structures arising from the cross section lineshape measurements in e+e- annihilations around 4.2 GeV.
