报告摘要:
Caloric effects have received a lot of attention recently owing to the discovery of giant caloric effects in ferroics. Caloric effect is defined as a reversible change in temperature under adiabatic application of external fields, such as electric field, stress field or magnetic field. As the caloric effects allow temperature control they are promising for solid-state refrigeration technology.
I will present our recent progress in the computational first-principles-based studies of caloric effects in complex ferroics. In particular, I will talk about computational approach to study caloric effects directly and how its application to ferroelectrics and multiferroics led to the prediction of elastocaloric and multicaloric effects that were recently demonstrated in experiments. Furthermore, I will talk about the potential applications of caloric effects that go beyond solid state refrigeration. Intrinsic electrocaloric effects at the nanoscale will also be discussed.
